This week, everyone in Grade 3 helped create the 'Classroom Contract' that we all plan to follow so that all of our Hopes and Dreams come true this year. After collaborating on what time write on the contract, each member of Grade 3, along with Mrs. Bozzo, Mrs. Barrow and Mrs. Herro, signed the contract with a slick fountain pen. Please come by sometime to check it out!
Math
This week, we focused on rounding numbers to the nearest ten, hundred, and thousand. We continue to weave math vocabulary into our daily routines. Thank you for reinforcing this at home.
Reading
We continue to work individually with each student to establish baseline reading levels and choosing appropriate reading books. This week, we focused on the skill of 'visualizing' a story in our heads while we read or listen to it. We call it "making a movie" in your head--it is a skill we are all working on.
Science
Students have been exploring the black "thingys" that appeared in the classroom last week. Most recently, they built their own models to test their own theories of how it works. We have also begun learning about life cycles of both plants and animals.
Homework
Formal tracking of homework success has officially begun. As a reminder, here is what we are looking for: all books, papers, assignments and folders are carried back and forth each day to school, homework is checked each night by a parent and then "signed off" on, reading logs are filled out correctly, assignments are completed on time, homework is packed up and unpacked correctly and all work is completed to one's best ability. Please know we are here to support your child in establishing good study habits. We are available anytime to give you tips and suggestions if your child is struggling with his or her homework or with taking responsibility for work and belongings.
Have a wonderful Homecoming Weekend! We hope to see you at the events...Go Pirates!
