The Pirate's Cove "I wish I could train the border collie to do that at my house...then she could contain my sister!" -Stevenson Third Grader This priceless moment was one of many seen and heard during our field trip to the Monterey Fairgrounds for Farm Day. Third grade classes from all over the county gathered at the Fairgrounds to learn about farm animals, planting methods, and even some ways to catch pests. Our third grade 'sheep group' had a blast touring the different stations. A special thanks to the parent volunteers who were kind enough to donate their time and attention for this trip. This week in Pirates Cove, the third grade worked on their rough drafts for the Pirate Planet newsletter. Students worked on brainstorming, expanding ideas, and forming paragraphs. Their pieces are coming along well, and they will collaborating with 7th/8th grade students who will help them edit and type their final products. Awesome! The third grade was also the spotlight of our Wednesday school assembly. At assembly, the third graders displayed their recyclable communities to the rest of the school. Students and their families took turns looking at the projects and asking the third graders questions about what they had built. Your children continue to brighten up the school. Thank you for the opportunity to work with them. With gratitude, Nina and John |
