Hello From the Pirate's Cove! What a successful Homecoming Weekend for the Stevenson Pirates! The JV Football team fought to a tough 6-6 tie while the Varsity team pulled out an incredible 39-35 win against rival Soledad. Many third graders took part in the festivities, including the annual Run in the Forest and the Procession of the Floats. If you looked closely, you could see four third graders sitting on the back of the 'Carmel Campus' float throwing candy to the crowd! This week in class, we continued our exploration of communities through building. This project doubles as a lesson for teaching teamwork and how to collaborate with others. Students are doing a wonderful job assessing their own abilities to work in a team. In Reading, students created goals that they would like to achieve by the end of the year. Whether it was to move up a few levels, focus better while reading, or just to read more enjoyable books, these goals will serve as guides for the rest of the school year. We encourage you to ask your child about his/her goal--we would love for you to reinforce it at home! We are continually amazed by your children as they routinely engage in daily 'Harkness' discussions. This student-led style of discussion encourages each student to listen to and build off each other's comments. Some of us are working on using our 'patience tool' to ensure we wait our turn to contribute, while others are developing their 'courage tool' to muster up the strength to be heard. This week the students problem solved a way to keep the raccoons out of our compost bin all by themselves. Incredible! Thank you so much for your continued kindness and support. We are so fortunate to spend time with your children. With Gratitude, Nina and John | | Calendar
