On April 21st, the Stevenson Pirates performed their ever Moulage Drill on the school's campus. Grade 3 was acknowledged as one of the most well behaved classes--their patience and cooperation helped the drill run smoothly. Naturally, it was the adults who made mistakes. But overall, a very valuable learning experience. Thank you for your understanding in regards to the drill's importance--your child's safety is our number one concern.
Some highlights from the week:
In reading workshop, students have begun reading Flora and Ulysses--a story about girl named Flora (who describes herself as a natural born cynic) and an unassuming squirrel named Ulysses. It is written by one of class favorite authors, Kate Dicamillo.
We wrote our final letters to our pen pals in Oregon, and provided home addresses to be reached at over the summer. We are hoping to receive one more letter from our pals so that we too may continue writing over the summer.
The wagons are officially packed for the trip out West as Grade 3 students had to decided what they were going to bring with them on this six month ordeal. Some brought 1000 pounds of bacon, some brought four barrels of water, some brought no water at all because there will be water along the trail! We'll see how these decisions play out in the coming weeks.
